Biography of Wynton Kelly
Wynton Kelly was a Jamaican-born American jazz pianist celebrated for his blues-drenched, soulful style and impeccable sense of swing, making him one of the most in-demand accompanists of the hard bop era. His most famous tenure was as the pianist in Miles Davis's band from 1959 to 1963, where he provided the instantly recognizable piano introduction to "Freddie Freeloader" on the album Kind of Blue. He also led a legendary trio with bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Jimmy Cobb, which recorded the classic album Kelly Blue and frequently backed Wes Montgomery.
