Born: March 13, 1969, Queens, New York, U.S.

Stephen Scott is an American hard bop pianist who emerged in the late 1980s as part of the "young lions" movement and gained early recognition by joining vocalist Betty Carter's band at age 18. His career is highlighted by a nearly ten-year tenure as the pianist for saxophone legend Sonny Rollins and contributions to multiple Grammy-winning recordings, including those by Joe Henderson. Now primarily focused on education, he serves on the faculty of the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim School of Music at Florida International University.
