Biography of Peter Nero
Peter Nero was an American pianist and celebrated pops conductor, best known as the founding music director of the Philly Pops, which he led from 1979 to 2013. A classically trained child prodigy who attended the High School of Music & Art and Juilliard, he first gained national fame at age 17 performing Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" on television and later won two Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist in 1962. Renowned for his virtuosic technique and genre-blending repertoire, he was hailed as a premier interpreter of George Gershwin and released over 70 albums, seamlessly fusing classical, jazz, Broadway, and pop music throughout his six-decade career.
