Biography of Gerald Wiggins
Gerald Wiggins was an American jazz pianist and organist, a versatile musician who excelled in both swing and bebop styles but was celebrated as one of the finest accompanists for vocalists, working with legends like Lena Horne, Ella Fitzgerald, and Nat King Cole. His career, which began in New York accompanying comedian Stepin Fetchit and playing with Louis Armstrong, flourished after he settled in Los Angeles, where he led his own popular trios and worked extensively in film and television studios. A beloved figure on the West Coast jazz scene for decades, he was known for his swinging, witty style and recorded a series of well-regarded albums, including his 1960 standout Wiggin' Out.
