Biography of Al Haig
Al Haig (1922–1982) was an American jazz pianist renowned as one of the original pioneers of bebop, contributing his distinctive, elegant sound to seminal recordings with Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, and playing on Miles Davis's Birth of the Cool sessions. While his style shared the innovative harmonies of bebop, he was noted for a lighter, more lyrical touch compared to the more percussive Bud Powell, emphasizing bright chord voicings and a "singing" melodic approach. Following a period of relative obscurity in the 1950s and 60s, he experienced a successful career revival in the 1970s, particularly in Europe, before his death in 1982.
